Seventeen HarrisonParrott clients at the 2017 BBC Proms
20/4/2017
Seventeen HarrisonParrott clients are set to perform at the 2017 BBC Proms in London.
The 2017 Proms will see debuts for two of our artists. On 22 August Javier Perianes performs Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No.2 with BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sakari Oramo, having previously performed, toured and recorded together. Pablo Heras-Casado then makes his debut on 3 September conducting an all Mendelssohn programme with Freiburger Barockorchester and violinist Isabelle Faust, the same repertoire they recently toured together in Europe.
Three HarrisonParrott violinists and one cellist return to the Proms this year. On 15 July Lisa Batiashvili performs Sibelius’ Violin Concerto with Daniel Barenboim and Staatskapelle Berlin which they recently released on Deutsche Grammophon to great acclaim. One month later, Christian Tetzlaff joins the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Robin Ticciati for Berg’s Violin Concerto (15 August), and then on 21 August Leila Josefowicz performs Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. Making a return to the Proms for a second consecutive year is cellist Alban Gerhardt who performs Schumann’s Cello Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic and John Storgårds on 10 August.
Two other HarrisonParrott pianists return to the Proms. On 17 July Behzod Abduraimov performs Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Thomas Søndergård – following his acclaimed Proms debut playing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3 last year. Stephen Hough then performs Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.1 on 29 July with Mark Wigglesworth and the BBC Philharmonic.
On 6 August Ain Anger and Christopher Ventris reunite for a Proms performance of Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Semyon Bychkov. The two singers previously performed the same work together at Wiener Staatsoper last season.
From our conductor roster, the first to make their appearance will be Xian Zhang on 30 July who leads the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as Principal Guest Conductor in MacMillan’s A European Requiemand Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 with Proms regular Erin Wall as one of the soloists. Next up is Paavo Järvi who conducts The Deutsche Kammerphilhamonie Bremen on 3 August. This marks the orchestra’s first return to the Proms since 2010. On 17 August Rumon Gamba leads the BBC Proms Youth Ensemble and Bang on a Can All-Stars in a world premiere of a new BBC commission by Michael Gordon.
Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Proms regular Sakari Oramo performs three other concerts at the Festival this year in addition to the one with Perianes on 22 August. On 30 August Sakari leads the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme of Tarrodi’s Liguaria, Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, the final scene from Strauss’ Daphne (with Renée Fleming) and Nielsen’s Symphony No.2 – this concert is part of the orchestra’s tour of Europe arranged by HarrisonParrott. His remaining concerts are with the BBC Symphony Orchestra; on 18 August he leads them in a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No.2 and on 9 September he returns to conduct the Last Night of the Proms, for the third time.
