John Adams and Leila Josefowicz debut with Berliner Philharmoniker

John Adams makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker, conducting two of his own works on 15, 16 and 17 September. Adams, who is also the orchestra’s Composer in Residence this season, conducts Harmonielehreas well as the German premiere of Scheherazade.2 (Dramatic Symphony for violin and orchestra) with Leila Josefowicz, who is also making her debut with the orchestra. Adams returns to Berlin in January to conduct a concert of contemporary works with the Orchester-Akademie, as well as attend performances of The Gospel According to the Other Mary, conducted by Simon Rattle.
Earlier this month Josefowicz performed Scheherazade.2, conducted by Adams, with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande at the Bâtie festival in Geneva. Later this year Josefowicz and Adams will perform Scheherazade.2 with the London Symphony Orchestra at London’s Barbican Hall as well as in Paris and Dijon.
