John Adams returns to London’s Barbican Centre this week following his success there with the London Symphony Orchestra last December. This time, he conducts a complete concert performance of his opera Doctor Atomic on 25 April with the BBC Symphony Orchestra staged by Kenneth Richardson.
The performance heralds the end of a series of international appearances celebrating Adams’ 70th birthday, including concerts in Los Angeles, New York, St Louis, San Francisco and Hamburg. Adams completes his current period in Europe conducting a concert with Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw on 6 May.
