25/11/2016
John Adams’ 70th birthday in February 2017 is marked by the London Symphony Orchestra with a series of concerts in London and France.
The celebration begins on 4 December when Adams conducts a performance of El Niño, Adams’ opera-oratorio retelling the nativity story from a contemporary perspective. This concert at London’s Barbican Hall features the London Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Chorus and London Youth Choir.
Adams also conducts Leila Josefowicz and the London Symphony Orchestra on 8 December in a performance of Scheherazade.2 (dramatic symphony for violin and orchestra). This concert, which includes Bartók’s Hungarian Sketches and Stravinsky’s Orpheus, is repeated in Dijon on 9 December and at the Philharmonie de Paris on 10 December. John Adams and the London Symphony Orchestra also repeat El Niño on 11 December at the Philharmonie de Paris.
