Sakari Oramo embarks on tour of Switzerland with BBC Symphony Orchestra
21/4/2014
Sakari Oramo embarks on his first tour with the BBC Symphony Orchestra since taking up the post of Chief Conductor last year. Orchestra and conductor perform four concerts in Switzerland, beginning in Zurich on 26 April.
Oramo conducts Mahler’s Symphony No.4, featuring soprano Anu Komsi, and the programme also includes Leonidas Kavakos as soloist in Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. Dieter Amman’s Boost opens the programme.
Following the Zurich concert, the tour takes in St Gallen and Bern on 27 and 28 April respectively, ending in Geneva on 29 April. For the latter three concerts Oramo — a celebrated interpreter of Elgar’s music — conducts the English composer’s Enigma Variations in place of the Mahler.
