Four HarrisonParrott Artists Win Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2024
7/10/2024
The Gabrieli Consort & Players’ recording of Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius is the winner in the Choral category of the 2024 Gramophone Classical Music Awards featuring Andrew Foster-Williams who “cuts a powerful figure as the Priest… and his impassioned, more mordant aria as the Angel of the Agony, replete with some of the most anguished chromaticism in the work, provides a powerful foil and preparation for the dramatic culmination of Gerontius’s glimpse of the Almighty.”
The Contemporary category goes to the album Saariaho’s Château de l’âme, Maan varjot, Offrande & True Fire, featured with organist Olivier Latry, Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra / Hannu Lintu, Faustine de Monès, Anssi Karttunen, Chorus of Radio France and French National Orchestra / Olari Elts.
Bertrand Chamayou wins the Concept Album category for Letter(s) to Erik Satie dedicated to Erik Satie and John Cage. “It’s also a celebration of two men who’ve both been cursed by being remembered largely for a single piece – and while 4′33″ doesn’t put in an appearance, the First Gymnopédie does, but it’s positioned after Cage’s potent Prelude for Meditation, the prepared piano at its most haunting.”
