12/9/2024
Rising star Hongni Wu made an electrifying impact at the sixth Éva Marton International Singing Competition, clinching the prestigious third prize. Her outstanding artistry also earned her the special prize for exceptional performance, as well as an invitation to perform on the stage of Hungarian State Opera.
In the competition finale, a Gala concert on Sunday 8 September, Wu held the audience spellbound with her performance of Rossini’s Cruda Sorte! Amor tiranno! from L’italiana in Algeri which followed earlier stunning performances of Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen and Liszt’s haunting Die drei Zigeuner. Accompanied by Hungarian State Opera Orchestra under the baton of Peter Valentovic, she was praised for her “bronze-like, fruity timbre” and her ability to deliver Isabella’s “Cruda Sorte” with both “mischief and bravado” (Bachtrack). Bravo Hongni!
