Mesmerizing Sol Gabetta joins forces with Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor Constantinos Carydis for two concerts on 30 and 31 May. The performances feature a programme paying hommage to the enduring legacies of Dmitri Shostakovich and Alfred Schnittke.

Gabetta takes centre stage to perform Shostakovich’s iconic and emotive Cello Concerto No.1. The evening promises a captivating journey through the tumultuous landscapes of 20^th-century Soviet and Russian music. Alongside Shostakovich’s masterful concerto, the programme includes his haunting Symphony No.10, offering a profound insight into the composer’s inner turmoil and resilience in the face of political oppression. Schnittke’s evocative compositions Klingende Buchstaben and Prelude in memoriam Shostakovich are complementing the Shostakovich repertoire. The evening also features the world premiere of Minas Borboudakis’ stirring orchestral work, Z Metamorphosis, which reflects on themes of political unrest and transformation.
