The programme include Dances from Transylvania by twentieth-century Hungarian composer Sándor Veress, followed by solo performance of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No.1 and two much earlier works: Heinrich Biber’s Battalia, which combines humour and virtuosity, and one of Joseph Haydn’s very last symphonies, No.103.
