DEUX IS A TRIUMPH!

Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Polina Leschenko celebrated the release of their newest disc Deux this week with a six date European recital tour. The duo took to some of Europe’s renowned stages including the Wiener Konzerthaus and Berlin’s Boulezsaal and completed the tour with a performance at London’s prestigious Wigmore Hall. 

Deux, released on Alpha Classics this month, explores the music of Poulenc, Dohnanyi, Bartók and Ravel and has already received a 5 star review from The Times. Geoff Brown writes, ​“The Moldova-born Kopatchinskaja is famous for digging into the strings of her instrument like an old-time prospector desperate for gold. She always finds it too, especially in a repertoire where her Middle European folk roots are a real asset.”

It was also awarded Album of the Week by Presto Classical, James Longstaffe writes:

“The disc is titled Deux, and on listening to the Poulenc Sonata with which it opens, I was immediately struck by how appropriate a title that is: there’s an overwhelming feeling of partnership and joy at the shared act of music-making between the two of them that makes listening to them a sheer pleasure. There’s never a sense of ​“violin plus accompaniment”, but of two equal voices.”

2018 has already been incredibly successful for Patricia who was awarded a Grammy last month in the Best Chamber Music/​Small Ensemble performance category for Death and the Maiden, recorded with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for Alpha Classics. This summer will see her take up the position of Music Director at the Ojai Festival where she will premiere and tour her newest project, Dies Irae in Ojai, Berkeley and the Aldeburgh Festival.
