Barbara Hannigan’s Crazy Girl Crazy wins the GRAMMY award for Best Classical Solo Vocal album. The recording is the first showcase of her work as both a soprano and a conductor, with the Amsterdam-based orchestra LUDWIG. The album was released on 22 September by Alpha Classics. 

Crazy Girl Crazy brings together Berg’s Lulu Suite, Berio’s Sequenza III for solo voice, and a specially commissioned arrangement of Gershwin’s Girl Crazy by Tony Award-winning composer and arranger Bill Elliott.

Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s Death and the Maiden wins the award for Best Chamber Music/​Small Ensemble performance. The album is a live recording led by Patricia of a concert in which the movements of Schubert’s string quartet – in Kopatchinskaja’s own string-orchestra version – are interspersed with other music to surprising effect. The album was recorded with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and released in October 2016 on Alpha Classics.
