Patricia Kopatchinskaja awarded the Swiss Grand Award for Music 2017

We are delighted to announce that Patricia Kopatchinskaja has been awarded the Swiss Grand Award for Music 2017. 

The violinist was unable to attend the ceremony on 22 September in person due to commitments as part of the prestigious George Enescu Festival last week. In her statement about the prize she said: ​“I am so grateful for having received the Swiss Grand Award for Music 2017. The prize is both a huge honour and an obligation.”

The violinist intends to use the money provided to help fund projects in new music together with orchestras and other interested entities. 

The Grand Award is the top award of the Swiss Music Prize, administered by Switzerland’s Federal Office of Culture annually since 2014. For more information on the winners, please visit the Swiss Music Prize website. 

“In her performances, not only do the great works of the standard violin repertoire emerge entirely new and seemingly spontaneous; but she also plays the music of today with unparalleled lucidity, dedication and virtuosity. Again and again, she challenges concert rituals and frees the audience from established listening habits, as recently as in the ​‘Dies Irae’ project at the Lucerne Festival this year.”
