This week Xian Zhang returns to the BBC Proms to conduct the BBC National Orchestra of Wales on 29 July, following her successful debut there in 2013 with La Verdi.

Conducting BBC NOW for the second time this year – she debuted with them in May 2015 — Zhang leads them in a programme that features Prokofiev’s Symphony No.1, Rachmaninov’s Symphony No.2 and Chen Qigang’s Iris Dévoilée, the latter of which she performed last month in her debut with the China NCPA Orchestra.

Later this summer Zhang makes her debut with the European Union Youth Orchestra, performing an all Tchaikovsky programme in Grafenegg, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rheingau and Bolzano with Alisa Weilerstein as soloist.

Zhang returns to London later in the year to conduct La bohème with English National Opera.
