Pierre-Laurent Aimard and the Ruhr Piano Festival have launched the English version of Explore the Score — Ligeti Piano Works – a new and free website dedicated to the late Hungarian composer’s piano music.

Explore the Score – Ligeti Piano Works aims to bring the composer’s music to a wider international audience and to give musicians and music-lovers access to his thoughts on performance and interpretation. Central to the site is an interactive component which enables users to explore the inner workings of the Liget’s music and follow the score as Pierre-Laurent Aimard plays key pieces from Ligeti’s collection of Études and Musica Ricercata.  

As a frequent collaborator with Ligeti for over 20 years, Pierre-Laurent Aimard was able to gain a unique insight into the composer’s wishes and extraordinary stories behind the music. Ligeti himself dedicated two of his Études to Aimard and acknowledged that the virtuoso French pianist inspired some of his most complex Études.

Further instalments of the project will be made available later this year with additional scores and new content.
