Pierre-Laurent Aimard steps in at the Edinburgh International Festival
18/8/2015
Pierre-Laurent Aimard has stepped in at very short notice to perform Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen at the Edinburgh International Festival on 19 August, after Lang Lang withdrew due to illness.
Aimard flies directly to Edinburgh from the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York where he was involved in three performances. The last of these: a solo recital entitled ‘A Little Night Music’ on 17 August, was streamed live on medici.tv.
Aimard recently performed Ravel’s concerto with the orchestra and Salonen in concerts in London and elsewhere in the UK, as part of the Philharmonia’s City of Light celebration; his performance of the concerto at the 2015 Aldeburgh Festival was described by The Guardian as being “dazzlingly precise” and by The Telegraph as having “an unusually deep, soft-edged gravity”.
