14/2/2017
This week Pierre-Laurent Aimard returns to the Philharmonia Orchestra for five concerts with Esa-Pekka Salonen.
The concert series begins on 19 February when Aimard plays Ligeti’s Piano Concerto at Royal Festival Hall. The concert also features Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé and a UK premiere of Stravinsky’s Funeral song, and will be broadcast by BBC Radio 3 on 24 February.
Subsequently Aimard performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5 at The Anvil (Basingstoke), St David’s Hall (Cardiff), Royal Festival Hall and, to complete the series, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid.
The two Royal Festival Hall concerts are part of Southbank Centre’s ‘Inspirations’ series in which Aimard and Salonen explore both their musical inspirations and artistic partnership. Further concerts in the series take place this May, featuring the music of Debussy, Boulez and Bartók.
