Matilda Lloyd Premieres Haigh Concerto at Aldeburgh Festival
7/6/2024
Matilda Lloyd performs the world premiere of a new trumpet concerto by Robin Haigh called LUCK at the Aldeburgh Festival at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on 15 June, with Britten’s Sinfonia led by Jessica Cottis.
This landmark event recreates the first ever Aldeburgh Festival opening night in June 1948 by keeping the programme almost the same: Purcell’s Chaconny, one of Britten’s major musical influences, and Handel’s Organ Concerto were paired with two new works: God’s Grandeur by Martin Shaw and Britten’s cantata Saint Nicolas. Shaw’s work is being replaced by Haigh’s trumpet concerto, written for Matilda Lloyd and co-commissioned by Ulster Orchestra. She joins Jessica Cottis and Robin Haigh for a pre-performance talk.
