A long-time friend and close collaborator of Hungarian composer György Ligeti, celebrated pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard marks what would have been the composer’s 100th birthday on 28 May performing his piano concerto with the young musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic’s Karajan Academy and conductor Susanna Mälkki. Also featured alongside Ligeti’s own Ramifications for Strings, Chamber concerto for 13 Instrumentalists, Poème Symphonique for 100 Metronomes and Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet are Stravinsky’s Monument to Gesualdo di Venosa and The Joy of Blossoming by Hovik Sardaryan.
