Conductor Hannu Lintu leads Marco Pereira and Gulbenkian Orchestra through a devilishly dark programme of works by Shostakovich featuring the composer’s infamously difficult Cello Concerto No.1, and his mournful Symphony No.11 (The Year 1905). The concert precedes the beginning of Lintu’s term as Music Director of Gulbenkian Orchestra which will see him become a regular face in Lisbon’s classical music scene from September 2023 onwards. Audiences can catch either one of the two concerts at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian’s Grand Auditorium on 18 and 19 May.
