17/3/2023
Pekka Kuusisto conducts the Philharmonia on 23 March at the Royal Festival Hall in a programme that brings together three composers’ takes on Shakespeare’s classic story Romeo and Juliet. The programme opens with Sinfonia from Bellini’s 1830 opera The Capulets and the Montagues, whilst clarinettist Martin Fröst is the soloist in the UK premiere of Anna Clyne’s Clarinet Concerto Weathered. The programme continues with Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and closes with Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from the 1957 Broadway triumph West Side Story.
