On 23 October Maestro Lawrence Foster turns 80 years old: in celebration of the occasion, Katowice prepares an evening of birthday celebration.

Maestro conducts the national polish radio symphony orchestra of which he is the chief Conductor and Artistic Director. The concert opens with the mysterious Awakening of Penderecki. Pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim joins as a soloist to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3 in C minor. The evening ends with two Romanian Rhapsodies op. 11 by George Enescu.

Last week, The Gulbenkian orchestra celebrated his anniversary a little in advance with the presence of Maestro as its Conductor Laureate and the cellist István Várdai. And that’s not all: the festivities continue on October 31 in Monte-Carlo in attendance of Rudolf Buchbinder and Nicole Foster. Happy birthday, Maestro!
