Ain Anger makes his anticipated Metropolitan Opera debut on 28 September as Pimen in Stephen Wadsworth’s affecting production of Boris Godunov under Sebastian Wiegle. Pimen is a role which has marked Ain’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden debut as well as appearances with Opéra National de Paris and at the BBC Proms, where his portrayal was described as “an example of someone completely inside a part, from the resonant opening (“Just one final tale”) through to the climactic strains of his witnessing of “the bloody sin” (Seen and Heard International). The performances in New York run until 17 October, when Ain returns to the Wiener Staasoper as Il Commendatore in Barrie Kosky’s new production of Don Giovanniunder Philippe Jordan.
