22/1/2021
The Bergen Philharmonic have created their own streaming festival that features a total of sixteen concerts over the course of four weeks. Víkingur Ólafsson has journeyed to Bergen to be the Artist in Residence, and will be performing three different programmes for a local audience in the Grieg hall. The concerts will additionally be streamed as a part of the Wintermezzo festival. The repertoire will include works by Bach, Glass and Mozart on 28 January, and Grieg’s Concerto for Piano in A minor on 5 February, as well as a chamber music concert in collaboration with the Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and principals of the orchestra on 2 February.
The programme also includes broadcasts of previous concerts with Tabita Berglund, Pablo Heras-Casado and Víkingur Ólafsson. On 27 January, it features Pablo Heras-Casado’s debut with the orchestra, in the first of two consecutive weeks last year, with Strauss’ Don Juan and Schumann’s Symphony No. 4, while on 22 January Berglund is joined by Leif Ove Andsnes for her recent debut with the Bergen Philharmonic in a programme featuring Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.21 and Sibelius’ Symphony No.7; the concert marks their second collaboration, having previously performed together at the opening concert of the Valdres Sommersymfoni in 2019. On January 29 we get a reprise of Víkingur Ólafsson’s performance of Bjarnason’s Processions. All concerts are broadcast at 19:30 CET on the Bergen Philharmonic website, and the full programme is available here.
