9/12/2020
We are delighted to announce that Stephanie Childress will join St Louis Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Conductor to Music Director, Stéphane Denève, and Music Director of the Youth Orchestra of St Louis Symphony Orchestra. The appointment was made by Maestro Denève following an international search and the contract will run through the 2021/22 season.
In the announcement, which was made public on Wednesday 9 December, Childress said: “I am delighted to join the SLSO family. I’m so impressed with the Orchestra’s warm sound, welcoming energy, and beautiful home. The SLSO has a sterling reputation in the industry and I’m eager to work alongside these brilliant musicians and Stéphane Denève. I’m equally excited to become the Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and make music with these tremendous young musicians.”
Stéphane Denève, Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, said, “I am truly excited by the huge talent and bright future of our new Assistant Conductor, Stephanie Childress. She impressed all of us immensely during her audition with the orchestra. We were all deeply inspired by her refined musicality, her incredible energy and control, and her highly communicative passion for music. I know she will be a great asset to our entire organization.”
Stephanie took second place at the inaugural La Maestra conducting competition in September and made debuts with BBC Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra shorty after. Other highlights this season include forthcoming debuts with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Orchestre de Paris.
Congratulations Stephanie!
