Peter Eötvös premieres new works in Gothenburg & Frankfurt
11/1/2019
Celebrating his 75th birthday in 2019, Peter Eötvös returns to hr-Sinfonieorchester on 17 and 18 January to conduct an all-Hungarian programme and completes an impressive three-year project ‘Eötvös3’ begun in the 2016/17 season. In addition to works by Bartók and Kodály, the concerts will feature Peter Eötvös’ own compositions – The Gliding of the Eagle in the Skies and the German premiere of Alle vittime senza nome – an orchestral requiem dedicated to the refugees from the Middle East and Africa who drowned in the Mediterranean sea.
Later on this month, Peter Eötvös returns to Gothenburg to conduct two symphonic concerts with Gothenburg Symphony and a chamber music concert with the new music ensemble Gageego! between 24 and 27 January. The latter will feature the world premiere of Eötvös’s new chamber piece Secret Kiss written for traditional Japanese Noh art performer Ryoko Aoki and inspired by a scene from Alessandro Baricco’s novel Silk, telling the story of a French silkworm trader who falls in love with a Japanese concubine.
