On 2 June Krzysztof Penderecki brings the 72nd International Prague Spring Festival to a close, conducting the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Philharmonic Choir in a performance of his monumental Symphony No.7 Seven Gates of Jerusalem – a work written in 1996 to celebrate the 3000th anniversary of the existence of Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state.
Penderecki is the second HarrisonParrott artist to have appeared at the Festival this year – in May Lukáš Vondráček performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.4 with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Penderecki’s Symphony No.7 is preceded by Czech neoclassical composer Iša Krejčí’s contrasting Serenade for Orchestra, conducted by Maciej Tworek. The concert is broadcast live on Czech radio.
