Pekka Kuusisto performs at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art with Alan Gilbert
27/5/2016
This week Pekka Kuusisto performs Ligeti’s Violin Concerto with the Ensemble of the Lucerne Festival Alumni at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5 June, under the baton of Alan Gilbert. The concert is a co-presentation of the New York Philharmonic, Lucerne Festival, and MetLiveArts.
This engagement follows directly on from Kuusisto’s performances of Nielsen’s Violin Concerto with Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Juanjo Mena. Earlier in the season, he performed the same work with Scottish Chamber Orchestra and of this performance, The Guardian noted that “Nielsen was a folk fiddler and Kuusisto made it show in the gorgeous looseness of his rhythms and stripped-back grit of his sound… What a thrill”.
