Jean-Yves Thibaudet starts residency with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
20/11/2015
On 3 December Jean-Yves Thibaudet starts his residency with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, performing Sir James MacMillan’s Piano Concerto No.3 (which Thibaudet premiered in 2011) under conductor Alexandre Bloch. The performance is repeated on 4 December.
Ahead of his residency, Thibaudet appears at the Concertgebouw on 22 November, performing a recital of Schumann (Kinderszenen and Piano Sonata No.1) and Ravel (Pavane pour une infante défunte and Miroirs) as part of the ‘Master Pianists Series’ in Amsterdam.
Thibaudet continues the residency in January 2016 with performances of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 conducted by Iván Fischer, shortly followed by a tour of Europe with the orchestra and Semyon Bychkov in February. They perform the same work at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Barcelona’s Palau de la Música Catalana, Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música and Brussels’ Palais des Beaux-Arts.
Finally, Thibaudet performs Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in February under Andris Nelsons, at the Concertgebouw and Essen’s Philharmonie.
In addition to his recital and concerti performances, the RCO residency includes a performance of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet with the Alma Quartet, a performance at RCO’s Club Night and a master class.
This is one of three Artist-in-Residencies for Thibaudet this season – the other two are with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and the Colburn School of Music.
