Xian Zhang conducts five Asian orchestras

During March and April, Xian Zhang conducts five different Asian orchestras, starting at the National Concert Hall in Taipei on 14 and 15 March with the National Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan.
Zhang then goes on to conduct the Guangzhou Symphony, China Philharmonic and Shanghai Symphony orchestras performing such works as Respighi’s Roman Festivals and Pines of Rome, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture, and Dvořák’s Symphony No.9. She also performs Zhou Long’s Concerto for Pipa and Orchestra in both Guangzhou and Shanghai.
The tour concludes with the Hong Kong Philharmonic on 17 and 18 April with a programme featuring the world premiere of a work by Qigang Chen commissioned by the orchestra, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.2.
Later in the season Zhang returns again to Beijing to make her debut with the China NCPA Orchestra where she will conduct Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini and Hamlet Fantasy overture as well as Qigang Chen’s Iris dévoilée.
