John Daszak debuts at Teatro Real, Madrid, in their production of Death in Venice

This week, John Daszak debuts at Madrid’s Teatro Real as Gustav von Aschenbach, in Britten’s Death in Venice. Produced by Willy Decker and directed by Alejo Pérez, the opera opens on 4 December and performances run through to 23 December.
Strongly associated with Britten’s music, John Daszak has enjoyed previous success as von Aschenbach at Hamburgische Staatsoper, as Peter Grimes at La Scala, ENO and Royal Swedish Opera as well as making his debut at The Metropolitan Opera as Captain Vere in Billy Budd.
The current season also includes John’s debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele as Loge in Das Rheingold under Kirill Petrenko, as well as a return to Berlin’s Staatsoper with Daniel Barenboim as Drum Major in their production of Berg’s Wozzeck.
