This month Osmo Vänskä returns to Australia, conducting the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras in six concerts.
In Sydney, the programme includes the Australian premiere of Kalevi Aho’s Percussion Concerto, with Colin Currie, alongside Brahms’ Symphony No. 1. In Melbourne, the repertoire features Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, with soloist Frank Peter Zimmermann, and Beethoven’s Symphony No.3.
Following the performances in Australia, Vänskä travels to South Africa, where he celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the South African National Youth Orchestra in two concerts in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The tour of Australia and South Africa follows a string of European concerts – with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Konzerthausorchester Berlin – as well as the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
