Osmo Vänskä returns to the London Philharmonic Orchestra at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 19 February, conducting three rarely played works: Balakirev’s Islamey, Aram Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto and Vasily Kalinnikov Symphony No.1.
The concert marks Vänskä’s first performance of Kalinnikov’s momentous and haunting masterpiece, and will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. The soloist in Khachaturian’s piano concerto is Marc-André Hamelin.
Other upcoming European highlights for Vänskä include returns to the Wiener Symphoniker for a performance at the Musikverein on 9 March and Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw on 12 April.
