Ain Anger and Christopher Ventris debut in Khovanshchina at the Wiener Staatsoper under Semyon Bychkov

This week at the Wiener Staatsoper, Ain Anger and Christopher Ventris make role debuts as Dosifey and Prince Andrey Khovansky respectively in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina. A new production by Lev Dodin, the performances are conducted by Semyon Bychkov and open on 15 November and run through to the end of the month.
Both regular guests at the Wiener Staatsoper, Anger has sung over 40 operas with the company since his 2004 debut as Monterone (Rigoletto) including Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Veit Pogner) under Christian Thielemann, Don Carlos (Philippe II) under Bertrand de Billy and Simon Boccanegra (Jacopo Fiesco) under Fabio Luisi. Ventris has appeared in numerous new productions at the house, including Wagner’s Parsifal and Der Ring des Nibelungen under Franz Welser-Möst and Kurt Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny under Ingo Metzmacher.
