In October Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and the London Philharmonic Orchestra embark on a tour of North America, performing two contrasting programmes which include Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3 and Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
The tour begins at Santa Barbara’s Granada Theatre on 9 October and takes in venues including the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto before concluding on 18 October at Chicago’s Symphony Center.
In the run-up to the tour, the Orchestra and Bavouzet performed the same programmes at Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música and London’s Royal Festival Hall, receiving outstanding reviews. Neil Fisher from The Times noted: “this was Prokofiev the Parisian: dashing, urbane, flecked with wit and irony, with still enough muscle in Bavouzet’s fingers for him to handle the rampaging charges up and down the keyboard.”
