David Zinman conducts his final concert as Music Director of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich
18/7/2014
On 21 July, David Zinman conducts his final concert as Music Director of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, a post he has held since 1995. The concert is part of the BBC Proms season and is broadcast on 25 July on BBC Four.
This performance marks Zinman’s fifth Prom with the orchestra. He conducts music by composers with whom the partnership has become most associated: Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, Dvořák’s Violin Concerto, with Julia Fischer as the soloist, and Beethoven’s Symphony No.6.
Sony released a special edition box set of Zinman’s recordings with the orchestra in March to celebrate their partnership.
During his tenure, Zinman has significantly increased the international profile of the orchestra through both recordings and tours. In his final season with the orchestra he embarked on an eight-concert tour of South East Asia.
Next steps for Zinman in the 2014/15 season include performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Washington’s National Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood.
