Leila Josefowicz premieres Luca Francesconi’s Violin Concerto
15/2/2014

Leila Josefowicz gives the world premiere of Luca Francesconi’s Violin Concerto, Duende. She performs the work in Stockholm on 20 & 21 February with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Susanna Mälkki. The programme also includes Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite.
The orchestra co-commissioned the work alongside Turin’s Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Josefowicz and Mälkki will perform Duende again in Turin on 2 May.
Soloist and composer collaborated closely on the creation of the new piece, which is the latest in a number of works written especially for Josefowicz ‑including Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Violin Concerto and a new work by John Adams, due in 2015.
