Susanna Mälkki begins Principal Guest Conductor tenure at Los Angeles Philharmonic
20/10/2017
Susanna Mälkki conducts her first concert as Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic on 27 October at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Joined by long-time collaborator and fellow HarrisonParrott artist Leila Josefowicz for the US premiere of Luca Francesconi’s Violin Concerto Duende – The Dark Notes, the programme is framed by two Berlioz works – the Queen Mab Scherzo from Roméo et Juliette and Symphonie fantastique. The programme is repeated on 28 and 29 October.
Mälkki then continues her Los Angeles run with four performances of Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, featuring scenes from Shakespeare’s play. The concerts take place on 2 – 5 November also at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. She returns to the Philharmonic in January 2018.
