Joining flautist Claire Chase and conductor Karina Canellakis, Akiko Suwanai performs the world premiere of Dai Fujikura’s new Double Concerto for flute and violin at Concertgebouw Amsterdam on 11 January. Commissioned by fellow violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, this concerto posed a new kind of challenge for Fujikura, who described the interaction of the two instruments in the same register as like two birds circling each other and flying in the same direction.
