On 20 November, French-Swedish conductor Sofi Jeannin appears in her debut with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in a unique concert titled The Music Makers. This programme features the UK premiere of Nico Muhly’s Friday Afternoons, and Judith Weir’s beautiful overture Music, Untangled. Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra closes the first half. Elgar’s choral work The Music Makers, which is based on haunting poetry by Arthur O’Shaughnessy, makes up the second half together with CBSO Chorus, Youth Chorus and Children’s Chorus and renowned mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly.
