SOFI JEANNIN APPOINTED CHIEF CONDUCTOR OF ARS NOVA COPENHAGEN
19/3/2024
We are delighted to announce that Sofi Jeannin will be the next Chief Conductor of the Copenhagen-based vocal ensemble ARS NOVA, succeeding Paul Hillier. Their collaboration starts in March 2024 and will extend until the end of the 2026/27 season. She will add this to her existing positions with the BBC Singers and the Maîtrise de Radio France.
Following a successful debut in September 2023 with a French programme featuring lesser-known composers Janequin, Alain and Joubert, she returns in March 2024 for inaugural concerts with music spanning centuries, from William Byrd to Messiaen and James MacMillan. Over the next season, they will perform extensively across Denmark and tour in Germany and Italy.
“I’m delighted to be working with ARS NOVA Copenhagen, very different and complementary to the other ensembles I’m lucky to conduct elsewhere.” says Sofi Jeannin. “The setup of twelve fine and flexible singers is a perfect premise for a most collaborative and intimate working process, which I greatly enjoy. We aim to continue to champion new music through performance and commissions and represent modern music of all times as well as developing further strategy for inclusiveness and education, a vital part of our responsibilities as musicians.”
