Patricia Kopatchinskaja appointed Artistic Partner of SWR Symphony Orchestra
8/5/2024
SWR Symphony Orchestra has announced its programme for the 2024/25 season, with acclaimed violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja returning as Artistic Partner.
Kopatchinskaja, who previously served as Artist in Residence with the orchestra during the 2020/21 season, will take on a more active role in artistic planning this time.
For the “Linie 2” concerts in November 2024, Kopatchinskaja has designed a Peace Project that eliminates the traditional boundaries between stage and audience, transforming the concert into an immersive sonic reality.
“When I heard about the outbreak of war in Ukraine and saw on television how people were hiding in a bunker, dealing with their fear for their lives, it deeply moved me. I wondered: What does it feel like to sit together in such a shelter? What kind of music — or simply sounds — do you hear there? What do you think about in such a situation? These thoughts inspired me to develop the ‘Peace Project’ in memory of the victims of this terrible war.” — Patricia Kopatchinskaja
Further ahead, in February 2025, Kopatchinskaja will combine Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre, presenting these two highly expressive works under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher.
