Être Sans Destin — Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Denis Podalydès at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées
19/4/2024
Acclaimed master of 20th century repertoire Pierre-Laurent Aimard joins actor Denis Podalydès at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées on 28 April for a dialogue of music and readings, intertwining works by Ligeti, Kurtág, Schœnberg, and Cage with excerpts from Imre Kertész’s Nobel Prize-winning novel Sorstalanság (Fateless).
Taking its title Être Sans Destin from the French translation of the original Hungarian, Kertész’s semi-autobiographical story about a 14-year-old Hungarian Jew’s experiences in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps is magnified by the stark sounds of his musical contemporaries and fellow survivors of the Shoah’s atrocities.
