On 9 February, celebrated Singaporean conductor Kahchun Wong appears in his London debut at the Barbican with BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sayaka Shoji. Together they perform the UK premiere of Hosokawa’s Prayer for Violin and Orchestra. Wong will also lead the orchestra through Shostakovich’s dramatically dark Symphony No.5. The concert opens with Takemitsu’s avant-garde Requiem for Strings, a work which Stravinsky praised for its sincerity and passion.
