Kahchun Wong announced as new Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Hallé

The Hallé is delighted to announce that Kahchun Wong will become Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of Manchester’s own symphony orchestra from September 2024. His initial contract will be for five years. Sir Mark Elder, becomes Conductor Emeritus after twenty-four transformative years leaving the Hallé enriched and internationally admired as the orchestra looks ahead with confidence to explore yet more musical challenges and innovations.

Kahchun will conduct the Hallé at Bridgewater Hall on 24 June. He appears as part of Manchester Classical, a Hallé-led celebration of music for new audiences featuring nearly all of the city’s professional orchestras. This hour-long performance will include Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Jess Gillam performing John Harle’s Briggflatts. It will be the first chance people will have to see Kahchun and the Hallé after the announcement of his new role. He will also lead the Hallé on a tour of Spain in January 2024, and conduct Fauré’s Requiem with the Hallé on 2 May 2024 in Bridgewater Hall.
