HarrisonParrott Artists Nominated for the Quarterly Critic’s Choice Prize 2024
Sarah Aristidou is nominated in the Lieder and Vocal Recital category for her second solo album, Enigma, featuring music by Tsiartas, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Messiaen, Ravel and Widmann. Released on Alpha Classics in November 2023, Aristidou collaborated with pianist Daniel Arkadij Gerzenberg and Jörg Widmann.
Aristidou is also nominated in the Contemporary Classical Music Category as part of Thomas Larcher’s The Living Mountain, released in October 2023 on ECM records. Aristidou features in the title work for soprano and ensemble, which draws inspiration from Nan Shepherd, the Scottish poet.
La Néréide is nominated in the Lieder and Vocal Recital category for their debut album, Luzzaschi: Il concerto segreto, featuring music by Luzzaschi, Monteverdi and Caccini for three sopranos accompanied by harpsichord, ancient harp and lute.
In the Jury Keyboard Music I category, Javier Perianes makes it to the long list of 2024 for the album of Goyescas, El pelele. Published with Harmonia Mundi.
Víkingur Ólafsson’s latest DG release of Bach’s Goldberg Variations is also nominated in Jury Keyboard Music I.
Cellist Alban Gerhardt earns a nomination in the Jury Contemporary Classical Music category for his recording of Unsuk Chin’s Cello Concerto with Myun-Whun Chung and Berliner Philharmoniker, released on Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings. The recording celebrates Alban’s longstanding relationship with the piece, which he premiered in 2009.
Paavo Järvi is presented In the Jury Concertos category alongside Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff, and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, for the album released in October 2023 on Ondine. Album is dedicated in the memory of pianist Lars Vogt, and includes Brahms’ Double Concerto, Viotti’s Violin Concerto No.22 and Dvořák’s Silent Woods.
Conductor Sakari Oramo receives a nomination in the Jury Orchestral Music category for his continued exploration of the works of Grażyna Bacewicz with BBC Symphony Orchestra, this time being recognised for his recordings of her Symphonies No.3 and No.4. The recordings are released on Chandos Records.
