Pablo Heras-Casado and Sarah Aristidou open Le Grand Macabre in Vienna

Celebrating the centenary of composer György Ligeti, the Wiener Staatsoper has programmed his opera, Le Grand Macabre, along with Wiener Philharmoniker and led by Pablo Heras-Casado, featuring Sarah Aristidou as Venus and Leader of the Gepopo. Jan Lauwers directs the new production, which opens on 11 November, with further performances on 14, 17, 19, 23 November.
Heras-Casado conducts Wiener Symphoniker at the Musikverein in a concert programme of Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No.4 and Georg Frederic Haas’ The Joshua Tree on 25 and 26 November.
Elsewhere this season, Aristidou reprises Le Grand Macabre with Orchestre National de France led by François-Xavier Roth, and at Bayerische Staatsoper in a new production by Krzysztof Warlikowski, conducted by Kent Nagano.
