JÖRG WIDMANN SPOTLIGHT COMPOSER OF INTERNATIONAL COMPOSER FESTIVAL STOCKHOLM

Jörg Widmann is this year’s spotlight composer of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic’s composer festival. He appears in two orchestral concerts and one chamber music concert. In addition, his compositions are being performed in further performances.
On 5 November, Ensemble Misto performs Schubert’s Octet and Widmann’s Octet for clarinet, horn, bassoon, two violins, viola, cello and double bass which is inspired by Schubert’s Octet.
On 9 and 11 November, Jörg Widmann conducts Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in a program including his own Armonica with Christa Schönfeldinger, glass harmonica and his Violin Concerto No.2 with Carolin Widmann at Konserthus Stockholm. The programme also contains Widmann’s Con brio and Fantasie for clarinet solo, as well as the Swedish premiere of his Danse macabre.
On 10 November, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and trumpet player Sergei Nakariakov perform Widmann’s Trumpet Concerto Ad absurdum under the baton of Fredrik Burstedt at Konserthus Stockholm. The program also includes Widmann’s Fanfare für 10 Blechbläser, Lied, Freie Stücke and Zeitsprünge, 450 Takte für Orchester.
The festival concludes with a chamber music concert on 12 November. Cecilia Zilliacus and Marko Ylönen begin the concert with Widmann’s 24 Duos for violin and cello, Carolin Widmann plays Widmann’s Etudes No.1, No.2 and No.3 and Markus Maskuniitty plays Widmann’s Air for horn. In the second half of the concert, Jörg Widmann performs a selection of Idyll und Abgrund for piano and Drei Schattentänze for clarinet solo. The Dahlkvist Quartet closes the concert with Widmann’s String Quartet, Jagdquartett.
