June's New Album Releases 2023

On 2 June, Lahti Symphony Orchestra released a recording of Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Piano Concerto No.3 and Bohuslav Martinů’s Piano Concerto No.3 performed by pianist Olli Mustonen and conducted by Dalia Stasevska. The album is released worldwide by BIS.

Daníel Bjarnason released From Earth to Ether with Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and soloists Jakob Kullberg (cello) and Karin Torbjornsdottir (mezzo-soprano). The digital release came out 23 June, with the physical release coming 7 July.

“The album contains older works of mine, written between 2008 – 2013 — some of my oldest published works. For these recording sessions I made either new or revised versions so despite the works being somewhat distant in time there was still a sense of exploration and curiosity in bringing these new versions to life. June saw the release of Edo de Waart’s recent album on Challange Records, Reinbert de Leeuw: Der Nächtliche Wanderer & Abschied. Featuring Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Reinbert de Leeuw, the album has been met with worthy reviews from the press.

Alban Gerhardt leads Alliage Quintett on their latest album, Phantasy in Blue,a spirited and imaginative medley of orchestral and cello classics, arranged for solo cello, saxophone quartet and piano. Alban brings his insatiable artistic curiosity to a selection of works by Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, de Falla, Shostakovich and Gershwin, painted in timbres that bring a whole new side to each work.

For their latest and fourth recording on Alpha Classics, Paavo Järvi and Estonian Festival Orchestra celebrate composers from Estonia and Poland with their album, KRATT. Two nations closely connected by their history and the corridor imposed on them by 20^th century occupation, which resulted in strong musical ties.

Osmo Vänskä’s isn’t the only Mahler recording this month. Tomáš Netopil also released his album of Mahler’s Symphony No.3 on Oehms records with Essen Philharmonic Orchestra, Bettina Ranch (alto), the Aalto Children’s Choir, the ladies of the Essen Philharmonic Choir and the children’s choir of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
