Riga Sinfonietta and its Music Director Normunds Šnē have announced the appointment of Jörg Widmann as Artistic Partner with effect from the 2023/24 season for a three year period. The post marks a new chapter in Jörg Widmann’s already existing long-term and close relationship with Riga Sinfonietta. 

On making the announcement this morning, Normunds Šnē emphasised, ​“mutual affection and respect are the foundations of the cooperation between Riga Sinfonietta and Jörg Widmann. We would like to further develop these ties and experience inspiring moments together on stages in Latvia and throughout Europe.”

The inauguration concerts in Jörg Widmann’s new role as Artistic Partner will take place on 2 February 2024 at the world class acoustic Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja and on 3 February 2024 at the Great Guild Hall in Riga featuring Mendelssohn’s Andante from the Sonata for clarinet and piano, in Widmann’s own arrangement for clarinet, strings, harp and celesta, his Versuch über die Fuge and Mendelssohn’s monumental Symphony No.5.
