21/4/2023
Dalia Stasevska and Martin Fröst both received awards at this year's BBC Music Magazine awards. Congratulations to all HP nominees.
Dalia Stasevska was awarded Personality of the Year, highlighting her successful year as chief conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the BBC Symphony, and her committed humanitarian work raising money for Ukraine and even driving supplies into the country.
“I am incredibly humbled and sincerely honoured to have been announced as the 2023 BBC Music Magazine ‘Personality of the Year’! While the past year has been very difficult and the fight for Ukraine’s freedom continues, I feel so grounded by the love and support from the music community.”
The BBC Music Magazine Chamber Award goes to clarinettist Martin Fröst for the album Night Passages for Sony Classic. The album brings the extraordinary alchemy of a specially formed ensemble to the public with highly original arrangements for the first time on record. With acclaimed pianist Roland Pöntinen and legendary bassist Sébastien Dubé, Fröst’s album Night Passages charts a nocturnal journey through the mystical and the melancholic, the playful and the profound. Reimagining favourites from the Baroque, while touching on jazz and folk music, the album’s atmosphere carries with it the vibe of late-night improvisation and deep conversation between friends. From Rameau to Richard Rodgers, it invites listeners to eavesdrop on a musical union.
